Saint-Méen-le-Grand [sɛ̃ mɛ̃ lə ɡʁɑ̃] is a French commune situated in the département of Ille-et-Vilaine, in the region of Bretagne. The town was founded by saint Méen (Meven).
A little history
Saint Méen was invited by the lord Caduon, and returned to settle at his side. Méen died on 21 June 617 and features in the calendar of Breton saints. The first tomb, in granite, of saint Méen was placed in the cemetery, beneath the stained-glass window of the chevet of the south chapel of the transept. Saint-Méen, at the crossroads of Roman roads, is one of the old ecclesiastical fiefs whose location was chosen in the 11th century by the abbot Hinguethon.
