A little history
Gallo-Roman "villae" were present in the area. From a feudal standpoint, the seigneury and the land were a possession of the comtes de Valentinois, then of the Poitiers-Saint-Vallier. Before the 15th century, the territory of Saint-Marcel formed a distinct parish of the diocese of Valence and of the mandement de Châteauneuf-d'Isère. Before 1790, Saint-Marcel-lès-Valence was a simple annexe of the parish of Bourg-lès-Valence, whose tithes belonged to the chapter of Bourg-lès-Valence, which presented to the cure.
