A little history
The site was frequented during prehistory, as evidenced by flint tools from the Acheulean period. A Gallo-Roman settlement was built there, the remains of which have been found, and it was later occupied during the Merovingian and Carolingian periods. The church contains a Merovingian sarcophagus holding the Frankish boots of a peasant, discovered at Thiverny. In 1081, Hugues, comte de Dammartin and lord of the place, gave the church of Hescerent, a Romanesque chapel from the 10th century, to the Benedictine monks of the order of Cluny in gratitude for the ransom they had paid to secure his release whilst he was a prisoner in Palestine.
