The war memorial of Saint-Jouan-des-Guérets bears the names of 59 soldiers who died for France during the First World War, including that of Jean Laffiche, captain in the 70e régiment d'infanterie, killed on 9th May 1915 at Roclincourt (Pas-de-Calais), who was posthumously awarded the Légion d'honneur. Henri Pluet, born in 1892 in Saint-Jouan-des-Guérets, a soldier in the 2e régiment d'infanterie, was shot as an example on 4th October 1916 at Le Plessier-Rozainvillers (Somme) for abandonment of post and refusal to obey orders. The war memorial of Saint-Jouan-des-Guérets bears the names of 15 people who died for France during the Second World War.
