Saint-Jory, the town
Saint-Jory covers 19.1 km², lies between 105 and 125 m above sea level and had 8,662 inhabitants in the 2023 census.
Saint-Jory is a French commune situated in the north of the département of Haute-Garonne in the Occitanie region. From a historical and cultural standpoint, the commune lies within the Frontonnais, a pays between the Garonne and the Tarn made up of a succession of stony terraces that gave rise to rich terroirs, renowned for their wines and their fruits. Exposed to an altered oceanic climate, it is drained by the canal latéral à la Garonne, the Garonne, the Girou, the Hers-Mort and by various other small watercourses.
A little history
Before 1222, Saint-Jory was under the dominion of the counts of Toulouse. However, their vassals plundered the church. In the 13th century, Hugues, sénéchal of the Agenais, took sides with the Albigensians, defended Toulouse and Penne-d'Agenais under the command of the count of Lancastre, and laid waste to Saint-Jory whilst making his way to Toulouse. The 15th century saw the beginning of a series of struggles and lawsuits between the village and the family of the Garrigia de Villeneuve.
