A little history
The site of the Clos de Bitot, excavated by the musée de Normandie in 1984, was occupied from the end of the second Iron Age (la Tène III, 120–51 BC) to the middle of the 2nd century AD. Dug into clay soil, an excavation of 12 m in length contained four Gaulish kilns, three of which still showed an almost entirely intact vault, whilst the fourth kiln had been razed down to the sole. The site also yielded deposits containing traces of a particularly significant presence of dogs, some remains of which indicate the removal of meat and/or hides.
