A little history
The village takes its name from Canus Natus, a Roman churchman of the 5th century who would become bishop of Marseille. Some time after his burial, a hamlet came into being. In the 12th century, the archbishop Pierre recorded Castrum Santi - Cannati in one of his writings. The death of Queen Jeanne Ire opened a succession crisis at the head of the county of Provence, with the towns of the Union d'Aix (1382-1387) supporting Charles de Duras against Louis Ier d'Anjou.
