A little history
After the subjugation of the Salyens of the oppidum d'Entremont and the creation of the site of Aix-en-Provence by the Romans, hamlets became established along the Via Julia Augusta, a section or extension (depending on the authors) of the Via Aurelia. In 102 BC, as they were returning from Spain, the Teutons were defeated in the plain of Pourrières, 5 km from Rousset, by the Roman general Marius. With troops inferior in number, Marius had entrenched himself in Arles as they passed through, then followed them, waiting for the right moment and place to attack. Subsequently, like Provence and Italy, Rousset would become part of the Visigoth kingdom and then the Ostrogoth kingdom.
