A little history
When the Marseille federates left the region for Paris in June 1792, three inhabitants of Roquevaire were present among them, Jean-Baptiste Lan, Antoine Saint-Martin and Pierre Ribot. It was this battalion which, arriving whilst singing the song of Rouget de Lisle, is at the origin of the name La Marseillaise of our national anthem. It was also this same battalion which actively took part in the fall of the monarchy by storming the Tuileries on 10 August 1792. In Roquevaire, the surveillance committee was established in 1793.
