Roquefort-les-Pins is a French commune situated in the Alpes-Maritimes department in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region. It belongs to the Sophia Antipolis agglomeration community. Its inhabitants are known as the Roquefortois.
A little history
In the 11th century, the fief was held by the lords of Antibes, who sold it to the Abbaye de Lérins, but in 1241, the abbot of Lérins, owing to the considerable debt the abbey was experiencing at that time, was compelled to sell the seigneury of Roquefort-les-Pins to the inhabitants of Saint-Paul-de-Vence for the price of 16,000 sols raimondi, with the abbey retaining ownership of the chapel of San Peyre. In 1547, following wars and epidemics, the community of Saint-Paul, in order to repopulate the area, divided the fief of Roquefort into 400 lots, which it distributed by draw to 400 individuals required to pay an annual lease of 9 and a half florins for 9 years.
