Situated on the border of two neighbouring départements, Redon is the centre of the communauté d'agglomération Redon Agglomération, which groups together communes from Ille-et-Vilaine, Morbihan and Loire-Atlantique.
A little history
The site has been occupied since the Neolithic period. Ancient coins, Gallo-Roman establishments of the villa type and a recognised Roman road have been found there. Looking out over the confluence of the Vilaine and the Oust from the top of a hill, the archdeacon of the diocese of Vannes and his disciples recognised all the interest of the location, a site protected from invasions and peaceful, ideal for meditation. Conwoïon obtained from Ratwili, lord of the place, the donation of a space sufficient to establish the monastery.
