A little history
Legend has it that the place name Ramonville derives from Raymond IV, comte de Toulouse, who is said to have owned a château on the heights of the hillsides, not far from the current commune of Ramonville. He is said to have given the place his name when he passed through it on his way to the Crusade in 1096. Indeed, this place name may derive from a Raymond (Raimon, in Occitan), a Germanic personal name based on ragin and mund, according to Albert Dauzat and Charles Rostaing, who cite no ancient forms. The second element is the suffix -ville (meaning rural estate or village, derived from the Gallo-Roman VILLA) from the Merovingian or Carolingian period.
