Quissac is a French commune located in the département of Gard, in the Occitanie region. The commune possesses a remarkable natural heritage comprising four natural zones of ecological, faunal and floral interest.
A little history
The founding of Quissac dates back to the Middle Ages, as evidenced by the Vièle quarter. With its narrow lanes and stone houses, the old quarter of Quissac has retained its authenticity. The first mention of Quissac is found in 1274, when its church was under the authority of the abbaye de Sauve. The parish subsequently became the centre of one of the archpriesthoods established at the end of the 17th century to strengthen Catholic supervision of the region, the church being rebuilt and enlarged during the same period.
