Portet-sur-Garonne (Portèth de Garona [pur'tɛt] in Gascon Occitan) is a French commune situated in the north of the département of Haute-Garonne in the région of Occitanie. It forms part of the communauté d'agglomération of Muretain Agglo. From a historical and cultural standpoint, the commune lies within the Pays toulousain, which extends around Toulouse along the valley of the Garonne, bordered to the west by the hills of the Savès, to the east by those of the Lauragais and to the south by those of the valley of the Ariège and the Volvestre.
A little history
It was a dependency of the comtes de Toulouse in 961. It served as the chief town of a baylie and then of a châtellenie. The army of the Prince Noir passed through in 1355. A charter of customs was granted in 1391.
