A little history
An unavoidable crossroads on the way to the coast or to Paris, Pont-l'Évêque has always been an important place of passage and trade. In the Middle Ages, the town became a significant administrative seat of the vicomté d'Auge. Like the whole of Normandie, the town was occupied by the English during the second phase of the Hundred Years War from 1418–1419 until its liberation in the autumn of 1449 during the campagne de Normandie. Pont-l'Évêque, affected by the Wars of Religion, subsequently enjoyed an era of calm and prosperity.
