A little history
The origin of the name Plaimpied-Givaudins goes back to two Latin components. Planum, meaning "flat", evolved phonetically into plaim. Podium, meaning in Latin, in the late period, "small eminence, rounded hill", eventually gave rise to pied. The origin of the name Givaudins is more obscure. Richard II, archbishop of Bourges, founded at Plaimpied an important abbey of regular canons subject to the rule of saint Augustin. Begun at the end of the 11th century, the abbey church dedicated to saint Martin was not completed until more than a hundred years later.
