Mehun-sur-Yèvre [møœ̃] is a French commune in the département of Cher and the région of Centre-Val de Loire. Exposed to an altered oceanic climate, it is drained by the canal de Berry, the Yèvre, the Annain and various other small watercourses. The commune possesses a remarkable natural heritage composed of four natural zones of ecological, faunal and floral interest.
A little history
The town has been known since the 9th century, both through written sources and archaeological sources. In the Middle Ages, the town developed around the church and the château, passing through marriages from the family of Mehun to those of Vierzon, Courtenay-Champignelles and d'Artois. A mint struck local coinage in the 11th century. In the 14th century, the possessions of Robert III d'Artois having been confiscated in 1332, Mehun passed to the Crown of the Valois kings.
