A little history
If one consults numismatics, one finds that the town of Brécy (Breciacum) is very ancient, with Merovingian coins having been discovered on which the word BRECIACO can clearly be read. In 1155, the mention vicaria de Berciaco appears, in 1190 ecclesia de Berci, from 1187 to 1256 terra de Berciaco, and in 1256 vigeria de Berciaco, and in 1357 the mills molendinum de Bercy. The ancient references to Brécy therefore indicate that this name underwent a metathesis, having existed in the forms Berci or Bercy, the root of which appears to be Berciacus, derived from the Gallo-Roman family name BERCIUS.
