Pibrac, the town
Pibrac covers 25.9 km², lies between 145 and 237 m above sea level and had 8,977 inhabitants in the 2023 census.
Pibrac is a French commune situated in the north of the département of Haute-Garonne (31), in the Occitanie region. From a historical and cultural standpoint, the commune is in the Pays toulousain, which extends around Toulouse along the valley of the Garonne, bordered to the west by the hills of the Savès, to the east by those of the Lauragais and to the south by those of the valley of the Ariège and the Volvestre. Exposed to an altered oceanic climate, it is drained by the Aussonnelle, the Courbet, the ruisseau du Panariol, the ruisseau du Rouchet and by various other small watercourses.
A little history
It is known that at the beginning of the 12th century, a castrum existed between the watercourses of the Courbet and the Aussonnelle, on a promontory. The fortified motte and its surroundings, made up of dwellings including that of the lord, formed the village of Pibrac. The first known lord was named Pierre de Pibrac. The territory was under the influence of the lords of L'Isle-Jourdain and the knights of the order of the Hospitaliers.
