A little history
In Antiquity, the territory of Peyruis formed part of that of the Sogiontiques (Sogiontii), whose territory stretched from the south of the Baronnies to the Durance. The Sogiontiques were federated to the Voconces, and after the Roman conquest they were attached along with them to the Roman province of Narbonnaise. In the 2nd century, they were separated from the Voconces and formed a distinct civitas, with Segustero (Sisteron) as its capital. Around 500, saint Donnat withdrew to the vicinity (the place known as combe de saint Donnat).
