A little history
The etymology of Peypin is linked to its natural environment. Indeed, up until the 17th century, wars had the better of the oak trees and other endemic woodland. From that period onwards, species that grow quickly and are both hardy and undemanding were replanted, namely pine trees, from which the pignes were harvested, whose seeds are edible, and whose wood serves as a material for construction, furniture-making, toolmaking and fuel. The resin, a sticky sap known as pégueux, with which the wicks of torches were coated and from which essences and balms were made, was harvested by the pégouliers.
