A little history
In the centuries preceding the arrival of the Romans, the territory of Mouriès, like the whole of the Alpilles, was populated by Ligures, Celts and Celto-Ligures. Mouriès was then in all likelihood part of the territory of the Nearchi, whose northern boundary was formed by Ernaginum, but also, perhaps, of the Anatilii, who lived as far north as the Crau, with the Alpilles forming the natural boundary. During the second part of the first Iron Age (7th and 6th centuries BC), the population, until then essentially nomadic, settled and began to build in permanent materials.
