Mornas [mɔʁnas] is a French commune situated in the département of Vaucluse, in the region of Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur.
A little history
The village is mentioned in 818 (Morenatuso) and again in 1037 (Mornaz). In the 12th century, the Comtes de Toulouse, having taken possession of the site, rebuilt and reinforced the fortress. In 1229, with the traité de Paris, Raymond VII, Comte de Toulouse, handed the Comtat Venaissin over to the Holy See. Mornas thus became a seigneury of the archbishopric of Arles until 1274, then a possession of the Holy See, which enfeoffed the lands to various lords.
