Montrond-les-Bains [mɔ̃ʁɔ̃ le bɛ̃] is a French commune situated in the département de la Loire in the région Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. The inhabitants of the commune are called the Montrondais, Montrondaises. The commune changed its name in 1937.
A little history
History (12th and 16th centuries) It is the site of a volcanic dyke dominating the plain, a "mont rond", which gave its name to the château. As early as the 12th century, the citation « castrum montis rondunti » attests to the presence of a small fortification, the property of the comtes de Forez. It was Guy II who decided to build this fortification with the aim of keeping watch over the Loire and the road to Lyon. In 1302, the comte Jean Ier exchanged the mandement de Montrond and its tower with Arthaud de Saint Germain.
