Montauban-de-Bretagne is a new commune situated in the département of Ille-et-Vilaine, in the Bretagne region. Created on 1 January 2019, it was formed from the merger of the communes of Montauban-de-Bretagne and Saint-M'Hervon.
A little history
The 12th Company of the 3rd Battalion F.F.I. of Ille-et-Vilaine was formed on 6 August 1944 under the command of Captain Jubin and established its quarters at Monterfil and Paimpont (it was named Henri Moras, in honour of this man who was shot whilst on duty at the entrance to Paimpont by an SS officer who was fleeing to hide in the forest). All the groups that were members of it had, before that date, already taken part in acts of sabotage and ambushes against German convoys. It received as its mission the clearing of the German presence from the forest of Paimpont, in cooperation with the American army.
