A little history
Fragments of Neolithic ceramics have been found in the grotte de la Roque-Chien. The Roman colonisation left significant traces in the quartier Saint-Jean. In addition to various foundations with razed walls, a statue of a Gaulish warrior (1.8 metres tall) was found there, which is now held in the collections of the musée Calvet in Avignon. In 1144, the emperor Conrad III gave Mondragon, with rights of high and low justice, to the archbishop of Arles and granted him the title of prince of the Holy Empire.
