Meudon is a French commune situated in the Hauts-de-Seine department in the Île-de-France region, on the edge of and on the left bank of the Seine. Located to the south-west of the city of Paris (3 km from the Porte de Saint-Cloud), it forms part of the unité urbaine de Paris within the métropole du Grand Paris. Unusually for a commune in the inner Paris suburbs, half of its territory is covered by a domanial forest.
A little history
Louis Eugène Robert, a naturalist physician living in Meudon, published in 1843 Histoire et description naturelle de la commune de Meudon. Archaeological sites prove that Meudon has been inhabited since Neolithic times. The Gauls called this place Mole-Dum (dun), and the Romans called it Moldunum. Meudon is mentioned for the first time in 769 in a charter.
