Levallois-Perret covers 2.4 km², lies between 23 and 34 m above sea level and had 68,092 inhabitants in the 2023 census.
Levallois-Perret is a French commune situated on the right bank of the Seine, in the département of Hauts-de-Seine in the Île-de-France region, bordering the north-west of Paris. It is the most densely populated commune in France, ahead of Vincennes, and one of the most densely populated in the world. Together with its neighbour Neuilly-sur-Seine, it is also one of the most affluent communes in the Paris region.
A little history
Until its official creation in 1867, the history of Levallois-Perret is intertwined with that of Clichy, to which it was attached. In 1215, the abbaye de Saint-Denis, owner of the royal palace of Clichy, acquired a plot on the site known as "la vigne aux prêtres" in order to practise viticulture. At the end of the 19th century, prehistorians identified for the first time, in the gravels of the Seine at Levallois, a knapping method consisting of extracting flakes of predetermined shapes from a core. This method, named the méthode Levallois, appeared during the Acheulean in Africa before becoming widespread in Europe during the Middle Palaeolithic, approximately 300,000 years ago.
