Neolithic occupation. Territory of the Mémini, whose capital was Carpentoracte, which would become Carpentras. The earliest archaeological traces of wines produced in the Ventoux (AOC) wine-growing area were discovered at Mazan, at the lieu-dit le Jonquier. The excavations, carried out under the direction of Dominique Carru, uncovered the workshop of a potter where the earliest known wine amphorae in France were made.
