Maurs [mɔʁs] is a French commune situated in the département of Cantal, in the region of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. The town is also known as Maurs-la-Jolie.
A little history
The name of Maurs is mentioned for the first time in 941, which makes it one of the oldest towns in Cantal. An abbey was situated there at the time, perhaps predating the founding of the town. Maurs became a "Bonne ville" in 1260. This title granted by King Saint Louis means that Maurs had been given a municipality.
