A little history
The population of the commune was, it seems, in favour of the changes brought about by the French Revolution, especially after the end of the Terror. The main revolutionary festival was the one celebrating the anniversary of the execution of Louis XVI, accompanied by an oath of hatred towards royalty and anarchy, celebrated from 1795 onwards. The war memorial of Martigné-Ferchaud bears the names of 159 soldiers who died for France during the First World War.
