A little history
Settlement dates back to the Gaulish period. In the Roman era, Epomanduodurum was an important city established in a meander of the Doubs. Many remains survive to this day, a theatre built into a hillside (the largest in Gaul according to excavations carried out in 2018), baths in the present-day district of Courcelles, and dwellings. The city was organised according to an orthogonal plan, divided into large rectangular blocks.
