A little history
Maclas certainly has very ancient origins that probably date back to the Gallo-Roman era, though no reliable sources exist to confirm this. What is known, however, is that its spelling first appeared in 1352. During the Middle Ages, Maclas was under the dominion of the baron de Malleval, and it was not until 1633 that it broke free to create its own barony. This barony was established at the château du Buisson and encompassed Maclas, Véranne, Saint-Appolinard and Roisey.
