Roman presence. The emperor Aurélien is said to have built a camp that would become a fortress in the medieval period. The seigneury, from a feudal point of view, Loriol was part of the temporal domain of the bishops of Valence, whose possession of this land was confirmed by the emperor Frédéric 1er in 1157. The Wars of Religion devastated the château.
