A little history
During this period only a small rise, the Mourre di Masco, emerged from the surrounding marshes. No traces of either prehistoric occupation or Roman colonisation have therefore been found. On 23 June 1148, Cistercian monks coming from Mazan in the Ardèche began to settle in Gordes and founded the abbaye de Sénanque. Some of them came to the site to drain the marshes that surrounded, in the quartier de Meyras, the Cluniac priory of Notre-Dame-des-Anges.
