Les Auxons [le.z‿oksɔ̃] is a French commune situated in the département of Doubs, in Franche-Comté, in the administrative region of Bourgogne-Franche-Comté. A member of the urban community of Grand Besançon Métropole, it had 2,533 inhabitants known as Auxois and Auxoises in 2023. The commune was created on 1 January 2015 by the merger of the two former communes of Auxon-Dessous and Auxon-Dessus.
A little history
The commune was created on 1 January 2015 by the merger of the two communes of Auxon-Dessous and Auxon-Dessus, under the legal framework for new communes established by law no 2010-1563 of 16 December 2010 on the reform of local authorities. It is made up of two former communes that decided to merge by resolution of the municipal council of each of those two communes on the same date, 15 September 2014. This resolution of the communes of Auxon-Dessous and Auxon-Dessus having been adopted by the members of both municipal councils, the merger was confirmed by the préfecture of the département.
