A little history
Alphonse Buhot de Kersers recalled the forms taken by the name of the village found in historical records. For Aix, he notes, in 1012, the forms hajensis and aiensis, then aias in 1031 and 1195, castrum de aiis in 1301, de castrum de aiis, de aiis Gillonis in the 15th century, ays d'Angelon in 1439 and 1448, and finally Les Aix d'Angillon from the 17th century onwards. Gaspard Thaumas de La Thaumassière remarked that the primitive word haia or haie was a name given by the Franks to their fortresses. This name appears to show that the founding of the village must date back to the barbarian invasions.
