Léguevin (Occitan, Legavin, pronounced Lègobi) is a French commune situated in the north of the département of Haute-Garonne in the Occitanie region. From a historical and cultural standpoint, the commune lies within the Pays toulousain, which extends around Toulouse along the valley of the Garonne, bordered to the west by the hillsides of the Savès, to the east by those of the Lauragais and to the south by those of the valley of the Ariège and the Volvestre. Exposed to a modified oceanic climate, it is drained by the Aussonnelle, the Courbet, the ruisseau de Saint-Blaise, the ruisseau du paradis and by various other small watercourses.
A little history
The discovery of prehistoric tools attests that Léguevin was occupied at an early stage. These tools (worked quartzite pebbles) are difficult to date. However, one of them, found on the banks of the Courbet, is thought to date from the Acheulean, a period of the Lower Palaeolithic. A hearthstone is thought to date from the Neolithic, though this dating is disputed as some believe that, given it was found near basalt cannonballs used during the Hundred Years War, it may very well have been brought by the English.
