A little history
The settlement of the commune dates back to Prehistory, owing to its location on the route that follows the Durance towards the Alps to the north. The stèles de Lauris, which are visible at the château de Lourmarin, attest to the presence of man in the Copper Age. In the Roman period, Lauris probably constituted, like the neighbouring communes of Puget, Puyvert and Mérindol, Roman villages. Lauris, at the fall of the Roman Empire, became the property of bishops then of the counts of Provence.
