Lançon-Provence is a French commune situated in the centre of the département of Bouches-du-Rhône in the region of Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur. It forms part of the métropole d'Aix-Marseille-Provence. In keeping with the gentilé, its inhabitants are known as the Lançonnaises and the Lançonnais.
A little history
Numerous traces of prehistoric and protohistoric settlements have been found at various points across the commune of Lançon, including Château Calissanne, Coudounèu, Sénéguier and Constantine. Following a fire in the hillside near the RN 113 (now the RD 113), the remains of a fortified granary farmhouse were discovered and a significant quantity of archaeological material was recovered there, under the aegis of the CNRS and entrusted to the town's salle du patrimoine. This site is known after the combe adjoining this small rocky promontory, the Coudounéu. The granary was in use from 550 BC.
