Lagardelle-sur-Lèze is a French commune situated in the centre of the département of Haute-Garonne in the Occitanie region. From a historical and cultural standpoint, the commune lies within the Lauragais, the former « Pays de Cocagne », linked both to the cultivation of pastel and to the abundance of its produce, and known as the « grenier à blé du Languedoc ». Exposed to an altered oceanic climate, it is drained by the Lèze, the Rieutort, the ruisseau de la Grange, the ruisseau de la Hière and by various other small watercourses.
A little history
Lagardelle-sur-Lèze witnessed events that relate principally to the passage of warring legions. While it would be hazardous to claim that it saw the Roman legions pass through, one may think it probably witnessed Charlemagne on his return from Roncevaux, making his way to the Rhône corridor to return to Germania. It is certain, however, that on 1 September 1213, Simon de Montfort, who that same morning had left Saverdun to reach Muret via Auterive, passed in the afternoon beneath the walls of the settlement. From 1905 to 1938, the commune benefited from a station on the metre-gauge line from Toulouse-Roguet to Sabarat, operated by the compagnie des chemins de fer du Sud-Ouest.
