A little history
Louis Graves notes at the beginning of the 19th century that 'Roman dairies of great fineness were found whilst digging to lay the foundations of new buildings, tiles piled up from the same period are encountered in the communal lands, as well as to the west of the hamlet of La Crapaudière. These vestiges indicate the ancient existence, if not of the village, at least of industrial establishments.' A village of craftsmen became established in the middle of the Middle Ages on the sites where stoneware pottery was extracted and fired, and produced in very large numbers. It was originally a simple dependency of Savignies.
