Labarthe-sur-Lèze is a French commune situated in the north of the département of Haute-Garonne, in the région of Occitanie. Its inhabitants are called the Labarthais, Labarthaises. From a historical and cultural standpoint, the commune lies within the Lauragais, the former "Pays de Cocagne", linked both to the cultivation of pastel and to the abundance of its produce, and known as the "grenier à blé du Languedoc".
A little history
Labarthe is one of those rural hamlets that formed part of the Gallo-Roman socio-economic fabric around Toulouse. Remains found in the ground attest to the existence of Labarthe during that period. In the 10th century, feudalism took hold, notably with the seigneurs de Clarmont and de Louzic, followed in the 15th century by the family Ysalguier, and then the Rochechouart, to name but the principal ones. On 30 October 1792, a few days after the proclamation of the First Republic, the citizens of La Barthe proceeded to elect the first republican general council of the commune.
