La Fare-les-Oliviers is a French commune situated in the département of Bouches-du-Rhône, in the region of Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur. It forms part of the métropole Aix-Marseille-Provence. Its inhabitants are known as either the Farencs or the Farennes.
A little history
During prehistory, the commune was largely submerged under water. The area was frequented during the Bronze Age and the Iron Age. The left bank of the Arc, to the south of the contemporary town centre, was occupied in the 1st century by a vast settlement, a villa maritima oriented towards the étang de Berre and covering more than 7,000 m², which included a monumental zone where mosaics were uncovered. The occupation of these buildings appears to have ceased after the 4th century, the period after which they were destroyed.
