Its inhabitants are called the Escarénois or in dialect lis escareasques [liz ɛs.ka.ʀe.ˈas.kes].
A little history
The village is mentioned in the 11th century. In 1037, a church of Saint-Pierre existed at L'Escarène. The fief of Lescarena or Scarena belonged to the abbaye Saint-Pons de Nice. A château was built there in the first half of the 13th century but is recorded as having been destroyed in 1252.
