Jouet-sur-l'Aubois is a French commune situated in the département of Cher in the région of Centre-Val de Loire. Exposed to a degraded oceanic climate, it is drained by the Loire, the canal latéral à la Loire, the canal de Berry, the Aubois, the Canche and another small watercourse. The commune possesses a remarkable natural heritage composed of one Natura 2000 site and three natural areas of ecological, faunal and floral interest.
A little history
Saint-Germain-sur-l'Aubois became a parish upon the disappearance of the parish of Dompierre, then a commune before becoming a quarter of Jouet. A simple chapel was enlarged in 1755 by the addition of a nave. The church was abandoned in 1868 and replaced by that of Jouet. It was not until 1878 that Charles Daumy, senator-mayor, and his municipal council, faced with the preponderance gained by the hamlet of Jouet over the chief town of the commune (all commerce and gatherings took place in Jouet), which possessed a post office and a gendarmerie, expressed the wish that the commune should bear the name of Jouet-sur-l'Aubois in place of Saint-Germain.
