A little history
Human settlement has been attested on the territory of the commune since the Neolithic period. Traces of occupation from the Gaulish and Gallo-Roman periods have been found. From the Merovingian era (5th century) until the beginning of the 20th century, the middle valley of the Oise was wine-growing. It produced a wine of which the abbé Carlier, in his Histoire du Duché du Valois, said in 1764, "Le vin de Jaux est connu, il passe en proverbe dans le Valois pour une liqueur qui glace plutôt que d'échauffer et qui n'a d'autre vertu que de gratter le palais par son âcreté".
