A little history
Human presence is attested on the territory of the commune as far back as the Neolithic period, by the presence of several menhirs mentioned as early as the 19th century and now destroyed or still visible. These are the Pierre des Fées at the lieu-dit Bellevue, the menhir de Bouillons, now displaced and re-erected in a pseudo-dolmen at 47° 57′ 33″ N, 1° 29′ 30″ W, the destroyed alignment of la Rimbergère, and the three menhirs of the métairie Neuve at 47° 54′ 41″ N, 1° 29′ 42″ W. The existence of these structures is in all likelihood to be connected with the megalithic complex of La Roche-aux-Fées situated in the neighbouring commune of Essé.
