Several archaeological excavation campaigns have been carried out on the territory of the commune. The number of sites studied suggests significant human settlement in the southern sector of Caen. A campaign conducted in 2019 by a team from the INRAP revealed traces of human activity on the site of the future Caen prison, from the Iron Age through to the Middle Ages. 60 human graves were discovered.
