A little history
The parish belonged in the 17th century to a branch of the family de Vauquelin, seigneurs des Yveteaux, and was erected into a marquisate in 1651 for Hercule Vauquelin. They were magistrates and later officers, and the line died out in 1782. The seaside resort, separated from the old village, was gradually built up, from Lion-sur-Mer eastwards, from 1867. The beach Sword Beach was one of the beaches of the English landings of 6 June 1944.
